Anyone local knows the building, well since it's fallen into disuse I've been talking to people trying to get any info or access I can.

It's now entirely surrounded by scaffolding at low level to prevent people being injured by the WINDOWS falling out! Some of which have fallen from the upper levels, some of which from the lower levels.

Which of course means there may well be access in...

Anyone up for it?? I'll be attempting it in the near future hopefully.

The ownership is still widely disputed but it's probably safe to assume Network Rail are custodians, therefore I'd imagine railway bye laws would be in place regarding trespass. That said, I've never see any security in the building, though the station staff do security checks at random which seem to include checking access into SP from either the sides or back (the front door is a blatant no go). The lower 2 levels are used by Great Western railway as office space and the bit facing the milkbank, that used to be Red Star Parcels, car park is used by a taxi company...who have doors that lead nicely into the second floor of the building that seem unlocked. Makes me wonder if they use more of it than is apparent.

The thing that's bothering me is this, no matter how well you try and hide yourself on the lower floors the massive windows mean you are literally on show to the entire railway station, hence I've been going down the near dead end route of a permission visit.

    Thoughts?

I'm up for that and not too far away and with plenty of time off work soon. PM me. But cant see it being any sort of epic - its just a modern office block, but would be good if access to the roof is possible (it's 13 floors high). Latest plan I hear is to turn it into 130ish flats.

Heading further along the railway to the SW there's the huge historic GWR water tower, now part of a college, which is doable to climb.

I doubt the inside would be much good, it's been extensively stripped. But the views should be awesome. It's been a while since I went up it, back when it was Threadneedle, so can't really remember being up it. I'll fire you a PM chap.

That water tower (it it's the one I'm thinking of) looks sketchy as hell. BUT where the underpass, from Station Road to the Outlet Centre, comes out there is a nice little number there that just begs a peek inside.

PM received, looking forward to meeting up soon. We do need to be careful as it seems that Swindon doesn't like this website too much

Finally, and its very unlikely that it will be just unlocked, there's a door in the plinth of the Brunel Statue. It's a ladder into utility tunnels under the shopping centre. Maybe nose around the area and find other ways in?

Likewise, and agreed. I've heard about the tunnel under the statue, apparently it's literally just a service void for utilities.

But then the media would say that ;)

Everyone local knows there's loads of tunnels under Swindon.

I have a associate who has strong links to Signal Point, and he has checked out the whole building, (no photos as he isn't interested) says security is at a all-time high at the moment with the scaffolding going up. If it is going to be done go in with that in mind. There are allegedly workers in the building doing prep work on the conversion to flats too.

thanks for that info.. you may have saved me a wasted 30 minute car journey.
Is the Brunel statue still at the shopping centre? My wife says it's not there any more... definitely still interested into getting into the tunnel there.

To the best of my knowledge the statue is still there.

There is a local history Group hosting a talk on tunnels, towers and cellars of Swindon on 13 Jan, I am aiming to attend and see if there is any new leads on any of the sites.

Sounds interesting, might pop along myself. Can I have the details please.

the tunnels and the cellars in Old Town definitely exist... The local newspaper has reported on them a few times
