    Hi Everyone
Last night, x and I, along with a friend who is not a member of 28DL decided to take a trip to visit a nuclear bunker. Here's a little bit of history.

    History
"In the 1980's Southern Water built 3 Emergency Control Centres. One at Brede in Sussex, one at Twyford in Hampshire, and another one near Farthing Corner,Gillingham,to serve the Chatham area. It was built for Southern Water usage in case of a nuclear attack. The Bunker was constructed inside a disused covered reservoir that was fitted out with thick walls and blast doors.

Inside the main entrance, down some steps is a Decontamination room with a Shower in. Using the shower would of helped to reduce radioactive material on the body after fallout from a nuclear explosion.

Through one door was a diesel generator and behind that is a shaft for air intake and filters. Another door from the Decontamination area leads into an air lock, then into a small corridor. Opposite the air lock was a ventilation plant room and then another shaft for the exhaust and filters. Carrying on down the corridor was a store room and Dormitory on the left and Toilets and Kitchen area on the right." *
It is also said that the whole place was to store the workers so that they could help retain a clean water supply for the area.

We had visited previously but couldn't get as many pictures as we would have liked to - the place has no lighting like many urbex locations, so we were running on 3 torches.

As you may see on the information source website, the images of the bunker are quite clear and the components that made the place rather unique are still intact.
This is not present today, as there are countless graffiti tags, quite a bit of trash, and a corner of the entrance is completely filled with oily water that smells rather putrid.

However, we did grab some pictures of the place. Unfortunately I could only get them on my phone (iPhone 6), But they still show some interesting things.

Later on in the evening, X and I headed to meet fellow 28DL member marmiteonpizza, and we scaled the tallest unfinished building that stands on victory pier, by the Chatham dockyard at the most northernly point of Gillingham.

Hopefully we're going to do some more exploring and upload some really good pictures for you guys, we have a few visits planned in the next few months so expect to see a lot more soon! :)

    Entry point

Front entrance to the bunker with grille + overgrowth

What I can only assume was once an alarm system, but I'm not sure. Can anyone identify?

The rear entrance to the bunker (possible escape exit)

    Looking down the shaft
    [IMG]

Walking in to the top of the stairs
    [IMG]

    Alarm control box
    [IMG]

From the entrance at the bottom of the stairs, someone has put red paint on their hand and mocked up a handprint to scare people! (spooked me first time from afar...)

One room with a power unit in, and something that has been blocked off - did not want to force past it, so left it as is.
This was behind the small grey handle door in the picture above, I assume something relating to the power of the place - obviously defunct now though!
Close up of the door (sorry for the blur! :()

The power supply for what was once the kitchen room
    [IMG]

    Gas and water supply piping
    [IMG]

Graffiti that's supposed to be scary...
Something creepy about this one though...

Definitely a hotspot for raves/illegal drug parties...

Looking up towards the rear entrance from the bottom of the bunker
    [IMG]

An unopened door by the entrance, we did not want to try opening it so as to disturb the general peace of the place.

The power outlet for what was once the bathroom
    [IMG]

Oxygen backup supply (we can only assume!)

Sorry for some bad pics, but If you get the chance you should definitely try and check the place out.

    Thanks for reading!

It would scare me too if I saw it for the first time! That hand print... won't know if it was real blood until a closer inspection of it would show.

As we walked closer to the handprint you could see like the lines of paint like on a bit of wall when you don't put enough paint on the roller, thats what it looked like - if it was real blood, it would have made a larger mark and also would have faded/changed colour over time! No worries there until you get up close haha.

Cheers on that one mate! :) At least I know what to look for, as if it was real blood; I wouldn't go past it!

Nice one, don't recall seeing this before - thanks :thumb

Anyway, can I just make a quick suggestion - more pictures of the actual rooms than pictures of light switches and stuff?

I'm amazed this hasn't been turned into a residence yet, most of the other bunkers of this size have been. Unsure who owns it now, but it's in a right sorry old state these days. As @obscurity said above, it used to still have the electricity on about 6 or 7 years back and was quite neat and tidy, then someone used it to grow cannabis and it's just gone down hill from there.

pic 3 is a 3-phase ( 400v ) meter, time clock & cut out. There's no electric supply because someone's taken out the fuses !
Can you guess what my job is, lol
