@SpiderMonkey and I finally got round to visiting a bit more of SSI's works in Redcar, this time to visit the Lackenby works. Not a lot you haven't seen before with the exception of a few control rooms..... and a little bit of skirt lifting!

The Lackenby works is a Basic Oxygen Steel-making (BOS) and Continuous Casting (ConCast) plant. It takes iron produced in the Redcar Blast Furnacse to produce steel. Scrap steel is also recycled as part of the process.

Unfortunately the bulk of the ConCast area was suffering from chronic darkness. We had already spotted a worker near that area and security were sat in their van parked below so trying to find the light switches wouldn't have been wise.

On with the pics.... WARNING: Control room heavy!

Power was still on in the BOS Convertor Control Rooms last time I was here - Looks like the quality panels and naff monitors are all dead now?

Top stuff as usual mate :thumb

TBH i found Lackenby to be the most impressive of the sites i"ve done. Probably purely on size, you can"t fail to be impressed (well i can"t ;)) apart from the lighting obviously .

Only one Secca van  they were driving round & through the buildings in 3"s last time ......WTF?

Yeah they were still doing that - a couple driving around and one stationary all the time, just watching.
