Bit of an impromptu visit this one, we were due to go elsewhere but last minute, plans were adapted, and we ended up at Chartham for my first glimpse of St. Augustines. I'd known that there used to be an asylum in Chartham for years but had been told so many times that it'd been demo'd/converted and just a couple of shite bits remained that I completely forgot about the place. :(

What a pleasant surprise therefore to find not only was there alot more left than I had thought but that it has decayed 'perfectly', it reminded me very much of Hellingly, very trashed by vandals and the elements but with some fantastic corridors and some of the best peeling paint I've seen in many years, the colours on the walls and the light entering through a plethora of chinks in the building make St. Augustines a very special little place imho, my pics definately won't do it justice, but I will get back at some point and spend alot more time there.

After getting back and chatting to sirjonnyp the next morning we realised we'd both been to the same place on the same day, we must've missed sjp by minutes, as he arrived we were just leaving, shame always good to catch up with sirjonny. :D

As he has already put up a report with the history of the place I'll just stick some pics up. Visited with Space Invader.
