A fairly actively explored site recently so I'll point you to Oldskool for the history instead of regurgitating it again. His pics arn't too shabby either ;)

This place had some stunning wallpapers - and so many different ones too! In some parts you could walk down the corridors and see a different wallpaper in every room :D

Followed by one of the old Hospital buildings out back - a treasure trove of odd bits and pieces, from a big old folding camera (which I didn't photograph because I didn't want to open it all up and risk damaging it) to a pair of old wooden oars!

The date on this fire extinguisher label, if you can't read it, is November 1985. I was 10 months old when this expired

Since the Hospital is still in use (in other buildings) the gardens are really well kept.

As others have pointed out, it's a really interesting building, with each patient having their own barn door to get some fresh air.

There were other buildings on site but they weren't anything special - monuments to crap 60's decor and water damage. We called it a day.
