St George's Park Lunatic Asylum opened in 1859, as the Northumberland County Pauper Lunatic Asylum. During its first 125 years or so, mental health care in Northumberland was based, largely, in St George's Hospital. Since 1985 however, services have been increasingly focused and provided in community settings. The pace of change has quickened significantly, leading not only to a reduction in patient numbers, but in changes to the provision of hospital accommodation.
Back in 1859 there were 100 male and 100 female patients. By 1888, as additional hospital buildings were being built, the population had risen to 267 men and 244 women and in 1890 the Asylum was renamed the County Mental Hospital. The name St George's Hospital was adopted in 1937.
Much of the original St George's Hospital site has now been sold to English Partnerships for future housing and business developments. The new purpose-built St George's Park, located within the grounds of the old St George's Hospital, has now replaced the existing sprawling, part Victorian built institution.

This was our second visit as we were short for time on the first visit and hardly seen anything, until you start walking around you don't notice how much of a huge building it really is. It was abit of a windy day and the sounds down the corridors was unbelievably disturbing and expecting a bunch of patients to come charging through the doors, I'm glad that didn't happen.

Very bright pics unless it"s my monitor ? apart from the corridor shot where you need a decent torch mate ;) looks like you used flash going off the limited range and the shadow from your lens hood :( (helps if you take it off sometimes but on camera flash are not really up too much)

Decent report & well done on getting in & i take it the Secca Jackdaws didn"t get you nabbed climbing up on the Tower?........ the little bastards :D

See how long it takes for the usual never posted anything suspect/s to ask "How do i get in " as per usual :banghead

Cheers AR, and I taken alot of the brightness out of the photos before uploading but my monitor might just be a little dark, I have a few decent torches (cree and ledlenser P7.2) i just liked the eary sort of effect, everyone to there own I suppose. and was trying out a wide angle attachment, turns out it works a treat if you don't need flash, if you do you just get a big dome at the bottom of picture haha.

First visit bumped in to security while we were leaving the grounds but on this visit didn't see them anywhere don't think they wanted to go outside in the wind ;).

And why is it only ever the people who have no threads or reports who insist they deserve to get it easy with the access :bla

And why is it only ever the people who have no threads or reports who insist they deserve to get it easy with the access :bla[/QUOTE]

Because they"ve obviously been spoon fed throughout their whole life and never had to do anything for themselves & this is just another example.

And if they turn up they"d probably have a letter off their Mum to give to Secca saying "Bertie B" (or some other made up name) needs to have the front door opened & a guided tour please as otherwise it (may or may not) involve climbing & that"s actual physical activity he would have to do for himself & he might get a splinter or scuff his pampered bottom and then he"d have to call Claims Indirect etc etc

Personally i don"t have any views on it, i"m just a nobhead (Quote)

Looks like you had a good wander there. We were busted before we'd even climbed the second fence to get in! Bloody nosey sods in the buildings next door :D

Was an awesome explore and your pics turned out great buddy.. a bit windy up the tower but was well worth it especially that spriral stair case Its mad how much somewhere can deteriorate over a few years... the ceiling in the main hall won't last much longer with all the water coming in and a lot of very soft floors so needed to tread carefully. I will get report and some pics up at some point

Sure Acid will be more than capable of defending himself, but here's my bit for what it's worth...

The only person coming across as a knob is you mate, rather than spamming people for access details, why don't you go, and find your own fucking way in, it's not rocket science? Or just don't bother at all, before you go and get the place locked down before I get chance to finish off here!
