    St. Joseph's Missionary, Mill Hill.

I decided to take a solo trip to St. Joseph's to see if I could make it any closer than Elixir's last visit. There is a lot of filming going on there a minute, the place is pretty active so it perhaps wasn't the best idea. However, I did get somewhere, around the abandoned byres and storage barns, and on to the Production set.

I'm sure you all know the history of St. Joseph's, and have seen the great pictures UKMayhem took back in 2009. History and pics on his thread here . There's also a good deal of history explained here.

Elixir helped me out a great deal with access so I want to say thanks to him. I got caught not once, but twice. First time by a security guy who quite honestly seemed to shit himself as I stumbled upon him. I tried to pump him for information but although he slipped up a couple of times he wasn't giving much away. He did however say he caught a group of 9 people with cameras the other morning...was it YOU? 9 people? You must be mad!

After my chat with him (he is positioned around the front side, facing the back of St. Joseph's, sitting on a wee plastic chair, very snoozy and timid) I said I would go off round the side and down to Lawrence St. He watched me go and I watched him sit and snooze again. Then I found another way in, out of sight, which brought me out at the pond and bridge. Anyway, I'm not going to bang on and on, here are the photos... (expect a lot of doors and peeling paint)

In the barns and shed buildings

This was set up as a film set, you can see the wood flats and props (tin bath, drawers etc) that are part of the set...

I think this was a nice find, a stone laid by 'The Brothers' of the missionary...

And a lovely 'Pax' sign which had been smashed

I'd exhausted all I could find in the barns and sheds so decided to creep up to the main building and hopefully find a way in. This is when I got busted the first time and walked off in the direction of Lawrence Street, promising I'd leave.

There was another rather sedentary sec guy down by the main entrance, was easy to slip past him. And I found the lovely pond, home to some beautiful lillies, a little bluebell copse and a couple of fine birds...

...and this cave thing (shit photo, sorry), which I thought might have been the burial ground? I never found that, it was the one thing I really wanted because of my website www.favouritegraves.com

It was at this point I got busted for a second time. One of the production staff walked by a window on the third or fourth floor. She did a double take and spied me. To which I looked up and her, put my finger to my lips, did a 'shhhh' then turned and ran out to Lawrence Street. It was exciting. And as I'm only 20 minutes away on my trusty bicycle I'll be going back again soon. :D

Some other attempts at arty shots...
