    Mooching......

Wanted to explore this place for ages and after several failed attempts I began to think it wasn't going to happen. Early one morning I decided another reccy was in order too see if access was possible again. I saw that access was available and decided to go for it. After a spiderman like climb I managed to finally get in :crazy. If I'm totally honest I was bricking it in there on my own and as I'd only really gone for a reccy didn't spend to much time in the dark there. Anyway I will be back hopefully not on my todd and with some daylight. Didn't get to the hospital part of the building as its a bloody maze but I did however make it to the chapel. The tell tale signs of chavs making their way in is obvious as glass is strewn everywhere as are the usual tags.

    History......

St Joseph's Hospital was erected on Mount Street, Preston in 1877 by Mrs Maria Holland for the benefit of the sick poor. It was opened in 1879 and run by the Sisters of Charity of our Lady Mother of Mercy, who also ran St Joseph's Orphanage in Theatre street. In 1884, it opened up two rooms as accommodation for private patients, and during the First World War it provided care for wounded soldiers (often Belgians). The Hospital was later recognised as a training centre for nurses, and accepted its first trainees in 1958. The Hospital closed in the late 1980's. It later became a care home which closed around 2007. Planning permission was granted in 2004 for it to be converted into 82 flats with parking, but it never went ahead, and the planning permission has now lapsed. Legendary performer George Formby died at the hospital following a heart attack on March 6, 1961.

    On with the pics......

Re: St Josephs (Mount street) Orphanage/Hospital

    Cheers for sharing :thumb

Could you do a quick edit of the title to add in the location (i.e the town/city) and the month/year - thanks.

P.s - worth getting to grips with photographing without the flash - less chance of being spotted, and you'll get more pleasing results. Looks like a good wander though :)

Yeh, fair play, did well to get in there. Spotted a couple of semi chances on NYD, was disappointed after climbing the wall not to find a way in too, nothing without substantial risk ;-)

Maybe back with ropes, or may try a sneaky permission visit while impersonating a surveyor ;-)

Respect for doing the death trap in the dark :thumb

Defo well trashed these days (which is no surprise considering where it is)

Nice to see the Asbestos Attic of Death is still there ;)

I hear you"ve had the official tour guide treatment off Urbex, hope you tipped well :)

Well done. Really want to see this. Been loads of times only to find nice breeze blocked windows. Been past the barb gate once only with permission from the business that use the car park and had a scope around only to see not really any way there. I did however find one possible way. And from what you say if thats how you went fair play to you cause looked a bit risky last i was there. If you out there again deffo hook me up would love to see this just for the sake that george formby died there. awesome report.
