I saw Goldie87's excellent report on this place and decided this weekend to see if it was still standing. I'm happy to report that it is indeed still standing - just. The stairs seem to be made of cork and the floors of balsa wood. Some rooms were just too dangerous to go in, but we went in a good 80% of the building.

From at least 1458, the elders of a large area of land known as the Gartree hundred used to meet at an old oak (Gore tree) to discuss justice, tax and other related legal matters. In 1750, they decided to move the meetings indoors, and chose this very inn to host their meetings. I don't know how long the site was used by the elders; there isn't a lot of history on the place after that. Since then it's just been a pub!

More recently, planning permission was requested to demolish the pub and build seven houses on the land. The permission was not given and the subsequent appeal was also denied. However, they must have tried again and this time had their permission granted because the building front is now covered with scaffold and www.langtonhomes.co.uk have details of the ongoing development on their site. It's looking like it won't be around for too much longer.

Derelict since 2002 (we reckon, from the calendar) it's escaped any vandalism by humans, but it's received plenty from mother nature. Explored with Iron stine. Known together as The Marks Brothers. ;)

Just heard from somebody local that this pub has now been demolished. May she rest in peace.
