Well, this is the first time I have ever been urban exploring, I decided to start big and go to this old closed down public house that I used to go to as a kid. It is a large building that has been derelict since June 2008 according to the calender. It was bought a year later in 2009 but the owner has left it stood boarded up and after being in a few times over the last few days, I understand why. I have never really believed in ghosts or the supernatural, but being in there you always feel like you are being followed. The scariest thing about it was whenever I went anywhere near the cellar I would hear extremely loud bangs, always 2 in a row. There were many things left behind such as the snooker table and surprisingly all of the trophy's too, nothing of value though, after seeing the writing on the chalkboards it is clear someone has been in and vandalized it and probably took anything with value, when this pub was boarded up everything was left in, including all beer pumps, TVs and the jukebox. There were still empty bottles on the tables and loads of glasses behind and on the bar. This place was huge and I looked through all of it except for the cellar, which I was really put-off going in. I did not have permission to be in here as I could not contact the owner, and though the lights in the pictures look like their on, they are actually just battery powered lights I put in the shades. It really breaks my heart seeing it like this though, this place was a fantastic pub back in its day, and so was the Cuthbert Bank just up the road. When the people who ran both these pubs moved away they went far downhill. I think its only fair to say, farewell to the Burgoyne and the Cuthbert.

I also recorded a video when I went in the first time at night and as I walk through the bar there is a huge bang which, when I was in, I didn't hear at all. The video link is below,

Also I did take way more photographs than I could put on here, download them at the link below,

    Welcome along Joe :thumb

Always find exploring an old decayed pub reminds of waking up with a really bad hangover - has to be done but probably not a pretty sight. I think the FAQ's recommend not posting old pubs for much the same reason, they always look crap even with damn good photos. Good work though for getting out there mate and look forward to seeing more from you

Haha you and me both, as much as I would have loved to I was never lucky enough to be able to enjoy a drink in this pub as it shut down long before I was old enough. And I agree it is difficult to get good photos inside when the whole place was trashed, freezing cold and damp, and the unexplained bangs really did not help with holding the camera still. I think it is really sad seeing what once was a good social place in a state like this, it was really nostalgic for me going in. Luckily after I had got past the razor wire around the beer garden there were a couple of good entry points. Really makes me wonder what the owner was thinking paying £120,000 for this place and then abandoning it. Cheers and I will try my best!

Been to a few good parties upstairs here and a few shady ones in it's later days.

It was a great pub at one point, back when it was run by a man called Tony and his wife, after they moved both the Cuthbert and the Burgoyne went downhill, and after many new landlords and landladies, all that didn't work out, they both were forced to close. Shame really. Strangely in one of the upstairs bedrooms there were still loads of Christmas and Halloween decorations left behind, presume they were used for the parties.

Seems a lot of places in Sheffield are done over and over again, so I will try and find somewhere new each time!
