Old Swan's other cinema is up for demo soon for a less impressive replacement retail unit. All of the shops in it are now vacant and just waiting to be cleared out before it bites the dust ; not sure when that will be but probably before Xmas if not by the end of this month.

From the planning blurb: "The existing building was one of the two Art Deco style buildings within the area. The Curzon Cinema, built in 1936 and designed by Ernest Shennan, features a vast expanse of brickwork, bold geometric shapes, definite lines and symmetrical elements. The other cinema in the area being The New Regent. With the closure of the cinema in 1960, the ground floor of the building was reconstructed into a row of shops. The upper floors remaining vacant and relatively unchanged from its days as a cinema. Over the years a number of shops have occupied the building, Home Bargains historically being one of them. The numerous changes of fit-out have left the building in a state of disrepair. Due to this, further refurbishment is not a viable option".

Still there as of last week - no sign of any work having been done yet. All the shops have moved out now,so it's empty.

Yeh i had a look. Its belled up by the look of it. When they actually start work that's when we need to know about it! Also we need to keep an eye on Cains Brewery. That place will be bloody epic if it can be done which it looks like it can be! Theres a fuck ton of stuff in Liverpool!

I'm so glad this hasn't been forgotten. I pass this building on my way to work and have become slightly obsessed with it. I've been wondering when someone will get in there. It's definitely empty. If I see any signs of building work I'll give a shout x

Some of the interior shots are epic, apparently the top floors are still untouched. Someone do it !!

I'm keeping an eye on it. No signs of life yet. The interior shots I've seen from when it opened are stunning. I'm well up for this when the time is right. Hopefully I can tag along with someone a bit more experienced :thumb

Ok, passing by here today. Definitely signs of workmen activity around the side entrance. Popped in to H&B and casually asked the woman on the checkout if she knew what was happening. Apparently the contractors are in there now preparing it for demolition. Asbestos has been removed. Somebody please please do this soon! If you don't mind a novice tagging along I am well up for it, childcare permitting!! :dummy
