ashworth secure hospital is located in maghull just outside liverpool, and this part has been empty since 1995 when it closed.
there is a tremendous amount of history to this place, but alot of it has been mentioned in previous reports, so i wont go over old ground!
this has been my first decent explore for ages as i've been busy with work and small children, but with the wife and kids away it was an opportunity too good to miss!!
picked up kirkbride about 6ish and under the cover of darkness we headed inside.
first call, the admin block, and a good 3 hours spent reading and taking photos of reams of case notes. then, with bloody frozen feet it was time to get moving.
looked round admin for a bit and then onto both the main blocks, before heading home at the end of a cracking day!!
    onto the pics

there was so much paperwork to look through, could have spent a whole day in there alone!!

this outlines the reasoning behind closing the south site

Some blurb that I found out today

Moss Side Special Hospital merged with Park Lane Hospital to form Ashworth Hospital. The Moss Side site became known as Ashworth Hospital (South Campus). The south site was closed in 1995 as the hospital managers decided to develop and extend the East site (the live hospital today). The south site was deemed untenable because it was cut off from the hospital by a public road. It also had security issues in that it had two story buildings and no perimeter fence. The buildings were considered to be unfit for purpose and would require high levels of expenditure to bring them up to standard, particular problems with upgrading the heating system were mentioned. They also thought they could sell off the land, ho ho.
