    The Gypsies Tent Inn
    Dudley
    September 2014

Hi folks this is my first post on here although I have been exploring for about 18 months and have been into my photography since 2001.
Since I was a kid there has been a brewery/pub boarded up in Dudley (west Midlands) I have always wandered whats inside, so a few months back I went in. I have pinched a little history from Google that I will paste here too.

    Thanks for having a look.

LONG BEFORE the current era of the ubiquitous boarded up, redundant pub, there was one old boozer which occupied a lonely corner of Dudley town centr and still bore the name by which it had become locally famous, despite not serving a single drop in decades.

That pub, which is still there even now, was the Gypsies Tent. Gavin Lawson has written the following after being allowed the chance of a lifetime; a visit to the old place which has fascinated him, amongst many others, for so long: “IT WAS some years ago when I first became aware of the Gypsies Tent in Steppingstone Street, Dudley, and started to hear the story of a pub trapped in time.

Apparently the brothers Don and Bert Millard who ran it, one day in the late ‘70s just shut the doors and didn't open it again. The pub was said to have been left as it was that day, completely untouched, and I always had a strong desire to get in and have a look.

“Over the years I heard more stories of the Millards who arrived in Dudley in 1867 when George Millard, on his way to Liverpool, stopped in Dudley for a drink and bought the pub then named The Jolly Collier, and changed the name after the traveler encampment over the road.

First Image is from when the pub was actually still open, all boarded up now.

Re: Whats in the gypsies tent?

Moved to the New Members Help section for now - to give you a chance to sort it out :thumb

Can you sort the title out - location, month, year :thumb

Unfortunately fail on most of your pics - you got it right on the first ones - just edit the report to do the rest the same way :thumb

Once it's sorted we can shift it bck out onto the main forum - cheers

Click on 'Edit' - then click on 'Go Advanced' - that will let you edit the title - needs to have the location (e.g town name) and the month/year of visit - (these are essential in the actual title when it comes to archiving reports - no point us archiving reports that can't be searched by location and date) cheers :thumb

Very good effort. I like some of those details, especially the lampshade and view of the trees through the window behind it.
Have all 3 pianos been trashed now?

Cheers, the Baby grand has a leg missing and has fallen over so has the one upstairs in the pic, however the mini organ looks in good condition considering. I drove past it again yesterday after a trip to Brum and the pub now looks fire damaged through one upstairs window. I really hope its not been burned again.
