We payed a visit to the fantastic York road library to capture some of the beautifull interior before the chavs & junkies do there worst. It's all ready in a bad state but it still retains the world famous Burmantoft tiles & mosaic floors. Built in 1094 the library was way ahead of it's time with fire proof floors. No expense was spared on it's lavish interior. Oak woodwork, Burmantoft tiles with the exterior clad in Accrington brick.

    [IMG][/IMG]Will do Carlin.
The interior of the library showing the oak vesitubules. There is still a few remains of stained glass in the place but the morons have sadly smashed most! The norther stairwell has already been gutted by fire which thankfully was contained in that small area.

[IMG][/IMG] As it was in it's heyday!

The grand entrance hall, Beneath the smashed debris & grime of 20 years neglect hides a beautifull mosaic floor with Leeds owl coat of arms.

Fortunately this cast iron spiral staircase is too heavy to pinch & too solid to smash unlike most of the fittings in there!

    [IMG][/IMG]
Nice museum piece cooker in the staff room. Pity the cast iron fire place tho!

    [IMG][/IMG]lazed brick in the stairwells

    [IMG][/IMG]
Over looking the mezanine, It looks more like a scene from the Strangeways prison riot.

    [IMG][/IMG]
This stained glass was captured on an earlier visit, Sadly the pond lifes have now smashed it to pieces!

    The mucky owl before

Credit to Oldboys & Sam. h for the restoration job. Well done lads!

Upstairs in the childrens reading room. Dig the orange decor. Holes in the roof are causing serious water damage with huge swaithes of maple parquet flooring lifting up in an alarming fashion!

    [IMG][/IMG]

    [IMG][/IMG]
The womens only reading room (how sexest)

[IMG][/IMGThe mosaic floor showing in all it's glory again!

If anybody wants to take a look can they give me a shout, As we made a good effort to secure this place after we'd been in to keep the scroats out! We can let you in rather than make big holes in the place again!
Here's the youtube explore if anyone wants a look! Cheers all.

Thanks fellas, Glad you like the old place. we've had a good bit of publicity since, News travels fast on the internet to say we'd only just been in. There's this 'Leeds library gets an unofficial make over' article here
