It was a day of epic fail. A road trip through Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire checking out unexplored disused railway and canal tunnels. We had the car loaded up with every possible piece of equipment - wet suits, ropes, a canoe and even a pair of step ladders. Sadly every single one of the many leads turned out to be a blocked or sealed portal. Not only that but one of the canal tunnel portals has disappeared and we even asked the landowner where it was (she said she didn't know what happened to it). So to whoever has the NW portal of Southnet Canal Tunnel on a souvenir shelf please return it.

Still we drove past this place by chance and had a quick look inside. Whilst it is no epic it meant we did at least get the cameras out on our Roadtrip of Epic Fails. Sitting here at home and working it all out, it would seem that we drove 250 miles just for this derp pub.

    HISTORY

Not much but worked out that it has been a struggling rural public house for a long time. It was sold to new owners in 2009, who converted it into Balti Indian takeaway and restaurant. Was still in business in 2010 at least but given the remoteness of this place, it wasn't going to survive. It was certainly gone by Nov 2012, for that's when the minutes of the local Parish Council show that it's vacancy was discussed. The Parish Council subsequently ordered the owners to board up the place in July 2013.

Was on the market for a guide price of £75000 in 2015 and described by the estate agents as "The property comprises a detached former public house arranged over ground and first floors over a cellar and beneath a pitched roof. The ground floor has a bar area, restaurant, conservatory, ladies & gents WCs and two kitchens whilst the first floor has a reception room, three bedrooms, kitchen, en-suite shower/WC and shower room/WC. The property has large gardens and a store." I notice that, typical for an estate Agents, they fail to mention that the place is totally trashed.

Good luck to whoever decides to take it on.
