Sheffield Old Town Hall stands on Waingate in central Sheffield, England, opposite Castle Market (and has a noisy shutter).

The Old Town Hall was built in 1807–8 by Charles Watson, and was designed to house not only the Town Trustees but also the Petty and Quarter Sessions. The initial building was a five-bay structure fronting Castle Street, but it was extended in 1833 and again in 1866 by William Flockton (1804–1864) of Sheffield and his partner for the project, Abbott; the most prominent feature was the new central clock tower over a new main entrance that reoriented the building to Waingate. At the same time, the building's courtrooms were linked by underground passages to the neighbouring Sheffield Police Offices

By the 1890s, the building had again become too small, and the current Sheffield Town Hall was built further south. The Old Town Hall was again extended in 1896–97, by the renamed Flockton, Gibbs & Flockton, and became Sheffield Crown Court and Sheffield High Court. In the 1990s, these courts moved to new premises, and since at least 1997 to present, the building remains disused.

For me this is the gem of sheffield, in a state of further decay its still a worthwhile visit...

A few decent ones with the light coming through but otherwise i think these are the worst pics i"ve seen from here IMO (which is worth nothing BTW :)

Plus you make the cells look :gay

Are you using a Mobile Phone? as most of the pics on most of your reports are as noisey as hell, and/or out of focus! I can"t imagine you want them to look like this so i wondered why? especially as they all appear a similar Focal length. Or do you have a fixed lens Camera and are hand holding rather than using a Tripod and release ?

Cos seriously it"s not working out mate. Something needs altering dramatically. The Firbeck ones you posted today are another example.

    Sorry but attention needed :coat

PS you do know the lights work outside Court No1 ?

    Cheers lol, ;-)

to be fair they didn't come out as well as expected, both taken on the same day with a pretty cheap camera, no tripod in mine, a couple (like the exposure effect ones) are from my pals camera with a tripod. It looks like my lens was blurred in truth.

To be fair not too bothered about a tripod, its not me I'm more about the exploring side - but if the photos show an update to a site its useful to other members which is why I post, not claiming to be a photographer or anything. But that aside, thanks for your comment

    Ok..On a positive note you've managed to capture a few interesting features ;
The peeley paint on the cells, the iron railings, the bunches of keys and the bulb and clock tower internals.

However, I'm guessing you've had issues with lighting.
A few shots have been destroyed by the flash, and some are massively out of focus.

It would be good to know what gear you've used. SLR, compact etc and what settings ? Auto/manual focus, what iso etc..You can get some good advice on this forum, god knows I've had some (to mixed effect) :)

Good effort for getting in though, comedy access and all :thumb and stick with it !

Yeah i don't bother with a tripod either, have tried but wasn't 'feeling it' just something else to carry lol, nothing wrong with a bit of constructive criticism though ;) That 5th pic is pretty cool though :)

Cheers, yeh we went in too early so many of the shots were in poor light and pretty dusty, coupled with a cheap camera and a degree of impatience on my part, they looked better at the site in fairness. But I am a complete amateur at photography - I look beyond this probably because of that, but I do notice a massive difference in mine and other photos on the site, so I expect criticism - thats okay.

Sorry mate it was constructive criticism :)

Even a crap camera on a tripod with a remote release switch or on timer dramatically improves your images, even if the sensors not up too much. And makes the difference between something you"re happy to look at as well as others on here. Even without using additional lighting like P7"s etc which will add even more thought into your picture taking.

Even on a decent FF camera that can handle higher ISO settings, there"s no point taking high ISO pics in the dark, when you can do the above, save yourself some PP work and sometimes be more creative in the process as well ( without resorting to Surreal HDR etc :)

Once you start taking decent pics you"ll enjoy your visits more mate believe me....or not lol

Additionally, taking a few easy steps like the above may save the post from being deleted when the MODS come round pruning the Threads of rubbish (not my words :)

Sure we"ll bump into each other soon down in Sheff" mate, & have a natter about it :) Or get a mate with a better camera for you to use ;)
