    Prestwich station

    prestwich station, 1967

Prestwich railway station was built by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway in 1879, and sat on the Manchester to Bury line. The line was converted from steam to electric power in April 1916. The station closed on 17 August 1991 to allow conversion of the route to the Metrolink system using overhead power lines, reopening on 6 April 1992.

The station is now used as a stop on the Metrolink network, however a small building can be seen from the platform if you look North towards Bury. This is all that remains of the "original" Prestwich station.

Inside it's pretty bare and there's not much to see - 2 doors lie on the floor that used to sit in the doorway (surprise surprise!) and a few wires lay scattered along the walls and ceiling. The building is often used for local graffiti artists to practice on.

Looking at some of these shots, I could really have made use of that book.
Anyway, I know this place is nothing special but it was a good way to kill 10 minutes or so whilst waiting for my girlfriend to arrive.
