Visited on saturday while in the area.
This place was used to treat people with mental health problems and learning disabilities up until is closure in 2002 (I think). I'm not quite sure when the main castle-like building was built, some sources say 1819, and some closer to 1890. Either way, it was sold in 1923 to the Lanark District Board of Control and became an `Institution for Mental Defectives' later that year.
It was sealed up pretty tight though unfortunately, only I managed to get into the kitchens/storage building. Would have tried harder to get into the main old building but there was a car parked outside and I could see the padlocks had been removed from the main door so I guess there were people inside.
Pictures -
Inside the kitchens... a wheel of fortune
A bit harsh I thought -
Cold rooms-
The storage room in the back contained numerous hospital items, from beds and chairs, to a safe, wheeled things etc.
Decapitated light -
Also tried 2 other hospital sites locally (would have tried more but for lack of transport) but there was a little too much activity at both for my liking
