ENEL Thermal Power Plant - Italy - July 2019
I know it has been done before but this little beauty has been on our radar for quite some time. It is glorious, it is spaftastic, it is just pure Power Plant Porn.
We rocked up in the middle of the day, a mistake? yes. But not because of any security issues but because it was around 40 degrees in the shade and we were mooching through waist-high grass and spiky vegetationy shit along the side of the outer wall trying to stealth our way in with the sun blazing down on us.
But we did not let that deter us and a little up and over and we were in, legging it across the open ground to get to the inner sanctum - the turbine hall and control room.
This place is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! and I have basically stolen a mix of AndyK and Darbians brief history (sorry not sorry!)
History
The 1280 MW Piombino Power Plant opened in 1977. It's an oil-fired powerplant on the western coast of Italy. The station consists of 4 x 320 MW generating sets with Marelli turbines and Ansaldo oil-fired boilers. The power station isn't technically closed - it has been retained to be available at peak times, should it be needed. In practice, while systems around the site are still running, it hasn't been generated any electricity for some time now.
It hasn't really changed since AndyK and Darbians went, but somewhere in my pics is a naked Jobs and they didn't get that shot (or shots
)
