General - Seaham Blast/Mine Tunnel entrance (closed)

Hello peeps, I was hoping that I could find out some more info about this blocked up entrance. I can remember passing this place when I was a kid many years ago, it had an iron gate back then but now its well locked up with a fence and a wall, just wondering if anyone had been in? I'm presuming it has something to do with the old pits at Seaham, Co Durham. It is dug in the cliffs at Seaham/Dawdon next to Hawthorn, I had a close look and all around is just loose lime stone as on pic 3, not really a great place to have an entrance, but I suppose it would of been more secure inside.

Just seen a post on facebook "seaham have your say" that refers to this, apparently it was the outlet for the water drain for water pumped from the coal mine.
