    Tinsley Marshalling yard- sheffield- jan '11

    Went to (whats left of) the tinsley marshalling yard. It was opened in 1965 as a part of a major plan to rationalise all aspects of the rail services in the Sheffield area, and closed in stages from 1985 with the run-down of rail freight in Britain. I think it fully closed in about 1998. the part of the woodhead line that runs alongside the side is also unused at the moment.

    Heres what it looked like in its hayday:
