HISTORY- built in 1901 as a bonded warehouse for the massive importation of tobacco supplies coming in from america ,cuba and latin america . when built it became the largest brick building in the world containing 27 million bricks . 30,000 windows and 8000 tons of steel to support this collossus .
in the early to mid 20th century tobacco was at its height of production and consumption , cracks started to appear in the 1920s when german scientists began to relate smoking with lung cancer , by the 1950s british doctors had also caught onto this and directly linked smoking with lung cancer .
with the decline of trade passing through liverpool in the 50s, 60s and 70s the warehouse fell into disuse . various plans have been put forward to redevelop this site , but with a building of this size a vast amount of money needs to be pumped into it
the warehouse has been used for various projects , the ground floor was used for a heritage market for 30 years until they was asked to leave by the owners due to the site being redeveloped , it has since been used for a rave , music videos of up and coming bands and doubled as the 1940s BROOKLYN docks in the CAPTAIN AMERICA movie in 2011.

THE VISIT- after finding a way to squeeze in with little effort , we was taken back at its sheer size , the ground floor was showing signs of building work in progress , we tried to get to the upper floors but found the stairwells blocked with debris and we did not fancy expending a lot of effort for what would be of little gain photo wise , across the way is another warehouse , we enterered to find machinery and vehicles in storage , we must of been seen on camera ! a sheepish surprised security guard approached us and politely showed us the way out ! even though we continued to take pics ! ....lol.....visited with my fellow 28DL derping sidekick @Cazel#HT

THE PICS- as usual i was using my canon 10-18mm wide angled lens , don,t know what i would do without it ? included in the pics are some screen shots taken off the telly of the CAPTAIN AMERICA(2011) movie which shows flickers of the tobacco warehouse in the background.
    ENJOY THE PICS FOLKS !

Yeah they did... used to get copied cassettes here every week... quite often you'd see them run like mad and sometimes leave a lot of gear about when trading standards would turn up haha

Excellent report Scotty, so much history here, I know some bits of Captain America were filmed here but I also remember reading somewhere that the basement here was a morgue for American servicemen who were to be repatriated back to the states during WW2.
I used to love the Heritage market too for a sunday bimble and to get my Ondigital and laterly my NTL tv card updated :) Paddys market aint a patch on what this place was.

The back section is a lot more interesting than the front, you should have another go if you missed it, there used to be a couple of trollies full of old files that were quite cool to look through too ......

They have started work on the Tobacco Warehouse now... the crane pieces that you see in these photos have now been built - and I understand that they've started work on the windows first. The grain silo (that large gray free-standing building) will come down in around a year.
