Well, I was far to late for this place. Totally ruined by pikeys, who were still at work all around us. When we were leaving we had to do a slightly funny and slightly worrying exit straight past them.

Not too much to say apart from that. Too see what it used to be like a few months ago, see Speeds report here... http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums...-mill-spodden-valley-rochdale-nov-2012-a.html

    The gates, completely destroyed...

Surprisingly, the chain holding the gates together is still intact, the whole brick pillar has come down.

The first view of this massive place, one of the largest industrial places I've ever seen...

Inside a couple of the large sheds, these seem relatively untouched, although empty...

    Filtration equipment...

The real carnage was on the glass-roofed sheds. Every window was lined with lead and no amount of damage has been spared to remove it...

and the resulting glass on the floor below...

It makes you wonder, here we are creeping around the place for fear of getting caught, meanwhile the building is being destroyed 18 hours a day every day.

No. Dispite what they did there there wasnt anymore asbestos about than any other factory. I wouldn't buy into the locals scaremongering.

Unless you go digging in the woods out the back....

There's mounds of asbestos fibre spilling out the ground there!

All old landfill has asbestos in it. Get it dug out and landfill it somwhere else or better yet just fill over it! All they do with it when you have it 'properly disposed of' is bury it again. Back whence it came!

This is more than a few sheets of asbestolux - think several metres deep of loose fibre from the dust extraction systems just dumped on the ground with 30yrs of leaves on top.

Cleanup will be a nightmare - even the fence posts are asbestos ffs!

You should have a look out the back of battery when your next up. They have dug out all the landfill there it's quite interesting if a bit cyanidey. This place will be much the same I guess. I just can't get my head round the paranoia over asbestos, personally I think it's a bit of a con.

A lot of people died who worked there, but I guess they were subjected to it day in day out for 30 - 40 years. I think what seems to get overlooked is that it is ONE particular kind of asbestos which is the "one fiber and your doomed". From what I have read white asbestos is no more harmful than breathing in any other kind of dust.

Workers in ceramics factories died in their thousands of "potters rot" but you wouldn't mind walking around a pot bank for a hour.

Click the link if you want to see more on Turner's and the "snowy woods" :p

Interesting that going back to the factory itself was wondering if there is anything left of it has it been totally demolished, will not forget that epic records room spent many an hour in there and every now and then having a chat with the scrap men and women too as they passed by.
