This is my first report so please be gentle with me.

My dad has lived in Australia for over 20 years and had come back to visit. I had to find a way of entertaining him and decided that it was the perfect opportunity to combine my hobby and a trip down memory lane for my dad who used to regularly visit Woolton hall in the 80's and early 90's. Thanks to Lavino for providing mr Hibbert's phone number and to Mr Hibbert for taking the time out of his day to show us around.

Anyway the history has been done many times so I'll keep it brief.

Woolton Hall was originally built in 1704 for the Molyneux family and redesigned and improved by Robert Adam in 1772 after the Hall was acquired by Nicholas Ashton. The photo below shows a portrait of Robert Adams within the octagonal room, which is a trademark of each of his properties.

After the Ashton’s, a number of families resided at the Hall, until it was acquired by Andrew McGuffie in the early 1900's who demolished the west wing and turned the Hall into the Woolton Hall Hydro Hotel.

There are plenty of wine cellars beneath the hall.

    image.jpg

Norte Dame convent was built on the site in 1970.

    image.jpg

The hall fell into disrepair and was earmarked for demolition......

..... until John Hibbert purchased the Hall in 1980 and renovated it to be used for functions and weddings.

    image.jpg

Local Freemason lodges began to be catered for by the Hall, with a total of 33 different lodges using the Hall until 2005. There are many examples in the decor around the hall that hint at its Masonic past.

    image.jpg

The Hall had 2 lodge rooms, a Chapter Room, and various ante-rooms on the upper floors.

    image.jpg

The lodges made use of the dining / function rooms and bar on the ground floor.

    image.jpg

Mr Hibbert sold the Hall to James Murray and his partners who are looking to convert it to retirement homes for the over 55's

However it is currently up for sale with a price tag of 3 million.
