For my 2nd visit to Wünsdorf, I was better prepared time-wise.

Having revisited the Haus der Offiziere in the morning, I popped into a supermarket for lunch, then drove just over 3 miles north, past the massive solar panel farm, to see the Maybach I and Panzir bunkers and the Zeppelin communications centre.

Building the bunkers started in 1937 and Maybach I was completed in 1939, when it was occupied by the Supreme High Command of the German Army (Oberkommando des Heeres).

The bunkers were mostly blown up after the war, as part of the Potsdam Agreeement, although somehow Zeppelin managed to survive.

The Soviets took control of the area and by 1953 there were around 30,000 soldiers based there.

In 1971 Zeppelin became the headquarters for the Soviets’ 16th Air Army, and at times there were up to 75,000 people living there!

Since the Soviets left, several of the building have been converted into apartments, schools and supermarkets, but most still lie empty... waiting...

Firstly, the blown up Maybach I bunkers:

Further on, is the entrance to the Panzir bunker, built in 1983:

And finally, the Zeppelin communications centre:

    Hi fellow urban explorers,

I'd like to warn everyone who plans to visit this site without permission.
We tried it 2 weeks ago and were almost caught by very aggressive security guards screaming like idiots.
Luckily, we escaped (not without a couple of bruises, though).

    Be safe, guys!
