I Visited here with 28dl Member Nightshadow and a non member on Tuesday evening and although there is not many interesting features i thought id just add some pics anyway.

There is not much info at all on this tunnel so i have taken some info from Lonerangers report from back in 2010 (hope he doesn't mind)

    HISTORY-
Dovestones Reservoir was built in 1967 to collect water from the surrounding moorlands. This received a lot of opposition from the local mill owners who claimed the damming of the river would cut off their water supply. As a result of this, a tunnel was built higher up in the hillside to bypass Greenfield and Yeoman Hey reservoirs empting into Dovestones Reservoir.

    INFO-
Situated over 1000ft above sea level, Ashway Tunnel must be one of the highest tunnels of significant length in England. It enters the hillside below the impress Ravenstones Crag and is fed by two major streams; Birchens Clough and Greenfield Brook and terminates 1.15km below at Ashway Gap with an impressive water chute.

Access to the tunnel was a bit difficult as there is no ladder at the end of the tunnel we started at! Was too much of a drop down so we had to climb down!

This was another water source for the surrounding reservoirs.

    Thanks for looking.
