Report - Aylsham ROC Post - Norfolk Group - 15/03/08

    My first report!

    Visited this post along with 5 others while in Norfolk this weekend.

    As we arrived at the post we asked a local who owned the land which then led us to a local farmer. We asked his permission to have a look in the post and he couldn't understand why a couple of ladies would want to look down there!! His family had owned the land since at least the 1940's and remembered the post being built. He got paid a rent while the post was operational and when it closed in 1991 he had the option of getting the post filled in, or taking £500 and the responsibility of maintaining it/keeping it secure. Thankfully he took the £500 and we were able to look inside.

    The farmer and his father had not been down in the post since it was handed back to them.... until yesterday!! They both came and had a look and I think were pleasantly surprised at what was in there - but still could not understand what the interest from us was!

    We had a look, took photos, thanked the farmer(s) and left, after giving him 28dl website address so he could have a look at this and other reports on the post.
