This is going to be pic heavy. The pics aren't my best, I was too busy being excited - so, so excited... Will try and give a rough story to it but still pumped up too much! Anyone who knows the site knows it massive and contains around 10 cranes of varying heights. It's smack bang in the city centre but on Friday nights not particularly busy with only people passing through as opposed to hanging around. It's well lit all over with reasonable fence all around the site, lit portacabins at night and various plant units parked outside the fences.

After a full circumnavigation at a distance decided to just hop over the fence and get a judge of the layout for return on Wednesday evening. Once over the fence, there was no going back I was bitten hard by the adrenalin.. Points of entry/exit multiple and varied - no knowledge gained of security routes or frequency, sorry ...

So in we get to a rather alarming well-lit site, as much as I was in my head to toe black it wasn't going to do shit in here. If I was caught I was going to just look shady, terrorist-like were no shadows to hide in ...

The staircases were my least favourite part, LOUD wooden plank steps and all well lit - did not want someone to be coming down as I came up, points of reference for exit point were sparse!

Finally got out into the dark, never been so glad to not be able see clearly, was still lit enough not to need a torch. Lots of scaffolding and surface water...

Wandering around the corner of the building I'd just exited from I nearly wept - I'm serious I had written off the cranes til I returned and went looking for one... There it was the access to the tallest unit on site, right in front of me. Standing 4 storeys up already this thing carried off higher, than high above me. I don't know how long I stood there dribbling!

So it had to be done, I had to go up didn't I? Paused briefly to shoot a flick at one of the upper platforms.

Thing is that seemed like a neat idea taking a shot from each platform, so here's one from a later platform...

But then lets be honest I couldn't contain my excitement and raced (carefully) to the boom.

From the boom I wandered around over the counterweight shooting the token traffic shots!

Then on the way back down having spent minutes, which felt like hours up there I noticed something I'd missed before. The crow's nest was accessible too! I'll post the pic of the view I saw walking back from the boom last because of the pic dimensions. In the meantime here's the view from the nest down the boom arm.

The way down was uneventful, exiting at what I thought was the level I'd entered on - it wasn't and I soon became lost, finding another horribly well-lit stair case I dropped to the ground floor and emerged out onto the site near the outer perimeter wall, no idea how close I was to the security cabins, this bit was sketchy. Made my way to perimeter fence and moved along in the shadow of it until one of the afore mentioned Plant units parked outside the wall appeared which I used to hide my climbing out over the fence and onto the street. Hit the ground pull my mask down and walk off down the street, iPOD back on loudly and laughing; laughing so much ..!

And finally as promised the view as I wandered from the end of the boom back to the ladders, I had to stop and take the shot to show what had made me more excited than anyything else!
