I'd seen pictures of this place at some point in the past but, I don't think I ever knew the name. I'd forgotten I had ever seen pictures though until I got inside and was totally blown away! Infact, we all were.

Castello di Sammezzano is a massive mansion built atop a hill in Northern Italy. The original part of the house was built in the Moorish style in 1605, between 1853 and 1889 they got the builders in. The resulting re-design is what you see here. After the war the castello was used as a luxury hotel until closure in the mid to late 1990's. There was an auction in 1999 when the building was sold and urgent restoration work undertaken, the Castello di Sammezzano remains abandoned.

    Visited with Rookinella and Lawrence.
