So, i knew in advance i was going to be in Sheffield for the morning and would have a couple of hours free in the afternoon.
What better way to spend it than an explore, my first choice was George Barnsleys as i like the look of the place, then Firth Vickers as it is close by, many thanks to TWEEK for the info ;)

The afternoon started with major disapointment, as i arrived at Barnsleys and found the way in, there were 2 workmen in there bricking up the entrace doorway with breeze blocks, i had a chat with them and they were cool, the owners are not happy with the drug use that's been going on in there.
They did suggest comimg back in an hour and kick it in so they would get paid for doing it twice !

So anyone think of a trip to Gearge Barnsleys any time soon, i think this will be sealed up pretty tight for the time being :(

So i proceeded to Firth Vickers and another fail, i was only on site for 2 mins before running straight into security, who escorted me off site but were reasonably friendly in the process, just bad timing that was :banghead

So not wanting to give up, i had seen some reports on Dysons so looked that up, got the location and Sat Nav did the rest, i was straight in, and to my relief and the afternoon was saved :D

History borrowed from a previous report.

    Founded by John Dyson
John began mining clay and making bricks in the early 1800s and from its inception the business prospered. The 1834 Sheffield trade directory lists - “John Dyson - Brick Maker, Stanningtonâ€￾ which indicates that he ran the business on his own. However, by 1838 the business was listed as “John Dyson and Son - Black clay miners and firebrick manufacturers, Griffs House, Stannington. The son referred to was John his eldest son

Dyson's where manufacturers of Refractory material, ceramics for the steel industry, they also produce firebacks and other household ceramic bricks for the likes of Aga's etc. They have also been know to sell clay for use in Well Dressings
