    The history

After a saga lasting nearly five years, in 2013 Boris Johnson granted planning permission for the construction of a 41-storey tower on the site of Eileen House in Newington Causeway, Elephant & Castle.

Because of a well-orchestrated campaign mounted by the adjacent Ministry of Sound nightclub, the mixed-use scheme by Oakmayne has become one of the most controversial in recent years.

Nearly 50,000 people signed a petition objecting to the plans on the grounds that the construction of new homes so close to the nightclub would put the world-famous venue's 24-hour licence in jeopardy because of the potential for noise complaints.

The proposals include 329 new homes as well as shops, offices and public realm in a scheme designed by local architects Allies and Morrison.

    The explore

Not really much to tell here, we decided we were going to “climb” it and went for it.

Now when I say climb, we climbed over a fence and then walked the steps to the top.

Fuuuuucccckkkkk I nearly died 800 odd steps for fuck sake!!!!

41 floors and then the roof access. Christ alive!

I did consider making a YouTube video but there’s nothing to like about a 42 year old sweating and panting as he “climbs” steps lol

I’m old and carrying a little too much weight these days but fuck it was worth it. Although I’m not sure the next few days of sore legs was lol

Fantastic view! The pictures are really clear, would love to visit there myself if I wasn't so afraid of heights.
