I only managed do one tiny little explore on my Berlin trip and had a quick look at this former ice factory. It's quite a tiny site, just two buildings are left and one of them required a torch which I of course forgot to bing with me, so I didn't get to see that one from the inside. The other building is stripped bare but there's quite some amazing street art in there, well, as everywhere in Berlin. The place was full of sprayers, explorers, party people and there was even a BBQ going on inside. Very relaxed.

The Eisfabrik Köpenicker Strasse was established in 1896 and produced ice for breweries, pubs, shops and private households in large blocks of 20 x 20cm and a length of up to 1.50m. Since there were no electrical fridges at the time, demand was large and the factory expanded continually. in 1945, one of the buildings got damaged during a bombardement but production went on for another 35 years. After the German reunification, however, there was no more demand for the ice blocks and so the factory got closed down a year after. There has been a fire in 1995 and the cold storage warehouses were demolished in 2010. There are some pending projects for the site but since resistance is large, nothing seems to be happening.
