couldnt find much info on this place when open as a swimming baths

what i did find stated that it opened in may 1904 and closed in 1984.......currently open as lister drive pet supplies and fishery and has been a family run buisness for 14 years.

fantastic place with very helpful people who run it ,also most original features of the baths still on show, the main pool has a raised false floor which is where they stock fishtanks and bird cages and the smaller pool has been seperated into different sections and has fish swimming around in them.

i was in the area mooching around newsham hospital and popped in here for some pet supplies on the way home, asked one of the blokes if it was ok to take pics and get up onto the main pool balcony,to which he agreed, tbh there is probably a lot more to see ,but i needed to be somewhere else so it was a case of a quick walk around........

didnt get a recent pic of the front mainly because the trees blocked me getting a picture but i found this old one....tbh not much has changed apart from the trees that now surround the baths

the view of the main pool looking down from the upper balcony...the pool is under all the stock on a raised floor

original tiling still on the floor..............................................................................and the pools edge now covered by the raised floor

out the back showing the now disused chimney that was on the old pic

the smaller pool has some fantastic tiling and features

quite weird seeing fish on the tiles surely these are original

also stained glass above the doors also show fish

a viewing platform above the pool shows some more fantastic features
