Bath number 4 on my trail of the Great Length .....

Govanhill Baths opened in 1914 and closed in 2001.
The baths were designed by the City Surveyor, Alexander Beith McDonald, and built 1912-17 in Edwardian baroque style.
The Glasgow volume of Buildings of Scotland (1990) describes the baths as having a ‘lavish interior, substantially unaltered’.
Continued use as originally intended has meant the interior has remained largely intact.
The baths were listed at Category B in 1992 in the resurvey of the city.
It consists of 3 pools, the large pond, ladies pool and small pool.
There is also baths, fitness room, turkish baths, sauna and steam rooms.

Like many of the baths in UK, there is now a trust...
The campaign to save Govanhill Pool formally began in December January 2001 when Glasgow City Council informed the community and the users that it was to close the baths on March 31st that year.
Govanhill Baths was the only original, substantially unaltered public baths still in use in Glasgow when it closed.
Emotional scenes were prevalent on closure with many of the local community demonstrating to keep them open.
