I frequently go up to Liverpool (live in the south) and near Lime Street station is a large 80's looking building which Google maps says belongs to HMRC, yet there's boarding around it with University adverts on.
Walked past it enough times, never really paid much attention until my most recent trip (February) when it dawned on me that nothing has changed since 2013.

I've stayed in the Adelphi Hotel recently and I've never noticed any lights on at night, or any kind of activity during the days, and there seems to be two 'site entrances' but look overgrown and dilapidated.

Does anyone know what's going on with this building at all? Would look closer myself but not sure when I'm next going.

    Google Maps: 53.406525, -2.975307

    Many thanks

I've got a fairly good memory for what's appeared on here, and copperas hill sounded familiar!
One day I will get off my arse and explore something......

AFAIK the Royal Mail sold it to JMU for conversion to student accomodation a few years ago ; IDK what's holding the work up though.

Update - it turns out the cost of converting the place was too much so JMU decided to demolish it and build new instead,so it's currently being pulled down. As it was a largely utilitarian building with a lot of open space, there was not much of note inside it ; its size was the only impressive thing about it. Oh,and the secret tunnel...although as it's in the book "Underground Liverpool",not really secret. It runs under the road to the station to connect with a spiral chute on one of the platforms that the mail trains would throw mailbags into ; they'd go along a conveyor belt and up a vertical hoist [in the glass section at the front, currently half-demo'd] in the P.O. building to be sorted.

Incidentally,Network Rail currently have a planning application in to fill in a service tunnel under Lime St station's platforms. I thought it might be the same one,or linked to it,but it appears not to be.

It looks like it's out of print,so you might have to settle for a used copy.
