**** Firstly a word of warning to fellow explorers ****

After being there for about 30 minutes, we were greeted by two of Crook's finest boys in blue.
We were escorted to the main gate, where there was 3 riot vans, and a dog unit!

After explaining what we were doing, we were allowed to leave, however the next day the police contacted us
to say that the alarm company found some of their equipment had been damaged and the needed to review the CCTV
footage as we were now suspects.

After doing a little bit of research after the event, the hospital is fitted with a system called Videofied.
Nice little wireless PIR detectors with built in cameras, that record for 10 seconds at a time, and transmit
the video back to central control. God only knows what they were saying in the control room when they saw us
    carrying tripods and cameras!

It was all sorted in the end, but I'd not recommend that other explorers visit the site, as the site is monitored,
and the police / dog units / riot vans etc etc etc will attend.

    A bit of history:

Homelands Hospital opened in 1903 and was originally a fever hospital, an early form of infectious disease hospital.
This explains the somewhat isolated position of the complex.
It was believed at the time that the best way to treat diseases such as tuberculosis,
typhus and smallpox was to move sufferers away from others to a more rural site where
fresh air would be the best form of therapy.

The building have had some later additions and alterations, however,
the style and quality of the buildings are typical of that used for municipal buildings of the era.
The majority of period features within the buildings have either been lost or
covered by modern surface finishes, though some period features remain.

The hospital closed in December 2004 and the site is for sale for redevelopment.

    On with the pics...
