Early start in Hudds for two Mills,

Reins mill first, authentic place...> Stolen from another site>

A small, elderly mill building on the outskirts of Huddersfield. Formerly home to the Holme Rug Co. In really good nick, with a few charming details.

Very little remains regarding the company itself within the building apart from a certificate of Incorporation in 1960 establishing itself as a limited Company. Information of the companies activities are also limited, presumably they wove and / or sold rugs, there are some bits and pieces of really old looms in the loft space but that’s about it. Evidence of an owl in residence is compounded by the large amount of pellets to be found “Look, white dog poo…â€￾

It seems that the company only operated for 15 years until it was wound up.

easy access, but tricky with lighting, and I lost a lot of photos (don't ask)- a few are from my pals camera to replace...

and Globe mill, really atmospheric in here>

Globe Mill is an old abandoned textile mill located in a small village near Huddersfield. The old stone building is very well built and surprisingly suffering little decay. There are plans which are undergoing review for a complete refurbishment of the site introducing accommodation, doctors, shops and a planned supermarket.

The refurbishment is taking place and incorporates an adjacent building, which looks like a bigger version of the one in the report, this was active with drilling engineers so we gave it a miss...

Nicely done, I rather like this place. Be cool if the fork truck worked.

not sure I can now, heres some associated history > Built in 1847, Reins Mill was occupied by Charles Dean in 1866 operating as a Fancy Woollen Manufacturer. A year later, Dean started a partnership with John Hey that would last until Hey's retirement in 1883. By 1889, Joseph Dean, son of the original founder, started at the company and from then on the company was known as Charles Dean & Son. The company would continue to operate from Reins right up to the end of the nineteenth century. (taken from another report).
