Was once one of the largest granate quarrys in the UK. It's spoil heap is named 'Mount Jud', and is the biggest local landmark and can be seen from many many miles away. My dad said in the 60's the army used to run up and down it to train. In the late 60's it had a huge union jack painted on it for dunlop tires, which was at the time Britain's largest advertisment.

When I was a kid I spent half my life up mount jud and in the old quarry buildings. This is where I learned to run like hell from security and where I learned to climb. I've even included a pic of my 'den' from when I was a kid, which is still standing!!
The things in the wooden box are core samples from the quarry. They have not quarried here for over 20 years, so they have been sitting in there for some time!

Can anyone identify the round building with the domed roof? I've always thought a brick kiln?
