The two shafts of Ignacious were sunk in 1792 and the last truck of coal was mined on the 11th August 1995. After it's closure the colliery was turned into an attraction with the addition of a viewing platform built onto the chimney, however on our visit the place looked very much derelict. The two steam powered winding engines dating from the 1900's can still be seen.
