London Park Hotel, my god how many times has this cropped up over time. Well finally today after two years of recces, attempts and theories, its been done!. Its a bit of a shame to be honest as in all fairness we were two weeks to late. In the central courtyard a huge pile of debris from each of the floor had just been thrown out the nearest window. Beds, fittings, baths, radiators, rails, everything that would have made up the hotel. Our own fault shouldnt have forgotten about it so many times.

Oh well enough of the negatives, onto the positives. The roof was always going to be the main target. To get a picture against the infamous LPH sign was a must do. So sure enough once over and into the building we headed up there nearest staircase. Each floor stripped out with plastic lining covering the walls and floor. As we reached the top floor we looked out the window.

London park was a hollow building?!. I never expected that but in the middle was a large courtyard. We continued up and finally made it onto the roof, set up our cameras and mission complete, photo taken!. We spent a while up here taking pictures of the building, kindly lit up by the huge floodlights from the oval.

Now we ventured to find the remains of any of the original features. We headed down the ground floor and over to the front of the building. The reception was now a store area for all the items the builders had salvages but the ceiling although a little battered still remained.

We walked around for a bit past the safes, complete with room keys and leaflets welcome customers to the hotel and the original booklets then headed back out to the car.

Lesson learned if you find something do it asap!.

Re: London Park Hotel - Finally!

Oh well, that's a half decent excuse :)

A few people had been working at official access over the last year... Payno got reasonably far then it went cold. I used to take a look once a month or so, but a new commute, new flat, general busy-ness... ah well! So many if-onlys.

I guess the thing is that the real history of the place - the mens hostel that George Orwell stayed in and wrote about - may well have been long lost by the time it was used for a refufee hostel a few years.

    PS... nice one zero btw.
