    Evening Guys,

Visited here today with Landieman, it was a truly epic place. Not massive, but what it did have were lots of original features.
My website has additional photos of the explore.

Peter Mc Mullen first set up his business in 1827 in Hertford. His sons built this newer brew house in 1891 as part of the company’s expansion. The Brewery had its own well, sunk to a depth of 140ft, costing £93 18s and 8d.

This enabled the brewery to have its own unique source of natural water, which was in use right up until the end of operations on site. In addition the original copper and timber fermenting vessels were also still in use in 2006. The site was expanded in 1984, and a new brewery was constructed next door.

In 2006 operations were vastly reduced and the new ‘Whole Hop Brewery’ was opened; as a result the 1891 and 1984 buildings were shut down and sold to Sainsburys.
Sainsburys submitted a number of planning applications for the site in 2008, which were later withdrawn. The proposals did include the (now grade II listed) 1891 brewery to be incorporated into a supermarket. The fate of this site is still uncertain.
