The Birkenhead tunnel was opened on the 18th of July 1934, and was the longest underwater tunnel for 24 years. The tour takes place in the dock building near James Street railway station.

There are regular tours, every Thursday and Saturday. I got a group of friends together and we visited last Saturday. It is my first report so please be nice! Here are the pictures :)

    The old control room panel:

    Warning labels (fisheye test):

    One of the fan motors:

    Driveshaft for the same motor:

Not too sure what this room was, could be the foundations for the Liver building:

Set of fans for air conditioning (fisheye):

Safety refuge under the road deck (fisheye):

Group photo to finish (in the reception of the building) :)
