Before Christmas i spotted an interesting little place for sale on Rightmove. A little pumping station in Cape Hill that, as it turned out, used to supply water for the former M&B Cape Hill brewery that was demolished in 2004. With a few quid burning a hole in my pocket and the auction less than 2 weeks away i popped down there and hunted it out. Now tucked away at the back of a modern housing estate at first i thought it wasn't really what i was looking for but the window was open so it would have been rude not to hop in and have a look inside. Once in my opinion changed. The wall to wall glazed bricks were amazing and it seemed just the right size for conversion to a small house. In fact conversion wasn't really what i had in mind, more a case of buy it, restore it and live in it. Apart from the addition of a kitchen and bathroom you didn't really need to change much. Now with a plan in mind i tootled along to the auction one morning and had a bid. Alas i didn't win it. Some goon decided it was worth £68k + VAT which was well over the top for a listed building in my opinion but never mind. I can still do a report for you all to see. I wonder what will become of it!

Having seen them first hand - can you shed some light on the bricks and stuff?

Looks bigger from the inside I thought.

The bricks came out of the frontage of the brewery. It definitely said 'Mitchells & Butlers Ltd.' and 'Duty Paid Stores' and i think it said 'Cape Hill' too. Would have been nice thing to inherit for free!

Looks like it said 'wines and spirits' or something too on one of the other pictures.

I've only just realised I went in here in 2005 -6, on the hope something was left from the brewery, that electrician's gloves box reminded me.

Missing that brewery was my biggest single fail of the UE career.

On another note, no to buying remaining structures from the brewery I collect... stick to Ridley's or Tolly!
