Went out with the intention of checking out Milford Hospital, we had a good external mooch but were unable to gain access. Whilst mooching, clocked security tracking our footprints in the snow.Time for a swift exit and headed down to Nutbourne Brickworks which turned out just fine.

Nutbourne Brickworks was built in the Summer of 1932 in the backwoods of the Surrey Weald and comprised workshops, narrow gauge railways, factory buildings and two Hoffman kilns. Unusually, the layout has changed little between its construction and the present day, although the narrow gauge fell into disuse in the 1980s. What remains, excepting the demolished kilns, is a remarkably complete 1930s brickworks containing much of the machinery from its operational days. Closed for a refit that never happened.

Nutbourne Brickworks were considered old fashioned and outdated by the 1980s and the then owner, Redland Bricks Ltd., proposed an ambitious rebuild, for which permission was granted in 1990. Unfortunately, this came in the middle of a housing slump and rebuilding was postponed, never to be resumed.

1# Sheet ice on this hill nearly put my car into the ditch

2# Farmer with access ruined the virgin snow.

5# Doors on front of kiln.

    10# Snowy rooftops

11# Mandatory through broken window shot.
