    THE SITE.

I am not political, but this place is very representative of the dark, recent history of this great wee country.

Originally it was an RAF Airfield during WW2 - as the first photograph illustrates !

The first prison (L-0-n-g K-E-s-H) was built on the main RAF runway, with the second built in the 70's ( HMP M4 zE)

    ENTRY

As youd have guessed - extremely difficult! except on organised tours

Aerial view of the whole site - from left to right, new prison, L K, L K mil site

pic from the frot door so to speak - L K is long gone, demolition in progress within M - the wall in the background, with the towers

    IMGP1733tn.jpg
There is an old compound to the far left of pic 1 - these are dismantled towers, awaiting 'recyling'

Lord knows where these would have been used

    IMGP1749tn.jpg
But I guess they were someones offices

    IMGP1760tn.jpg

Still lots of evidence as to its RAF past around this end of the prison

    IMGP1799tn.jpg
Dont know if these are taxiway / runway lights - the two hangars in the background will be staying as part of a museum

cell mural - over time, these have been painted over many times. Now with the damp (no heating) they are starting to show through - like ghosts from the past

Having recently visited this site, I thought I would share an update of some photographs I took in March 2008.

[Below] Could this be one of the original prison cell doors?
