had never seen or heard of this place before untill today, RAF Little Rissington an RAF aerodrome and former RAF station. It was once home to the Central Flying School, the Vintage Pair and the Red Arrows.

Built during the 1930s, the station was opened in 1938 and closed in 1994. The married-quarters and main technical site were sold in 1996 but the aerodrome has been retained by the Ministry of Defence and remains active along with the southern technical sites.

It is now home to 637 Volunteer Gliding Squadron as the primary military unit, who provide elementary flying training for Combined Cadet Force and Air Training Corps cadets. The aviation maintenance company Devonair operate from the southern hangars. The airfield is also used by the forces as a relief landing ground, training area and parachute dropping area. In previous years, the Royal Air Force estate has been used as a film set and all this tucked away in the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside, had a spare hour and as no one stopped me at the gate, would have been rude not to take a look, hundreds of people must pass it each day and not have a clue of what was here! I see there is a few old reports/photos on here but of the accomodation side of the base, well that area looks off limits now so went straight to the hangers, no joy as now warehouses, except one which was fenced off and seen better days (such a waste) but the rest in good condition still, runway was also fenced off so put on my hi viz and had a mooch round what i could as its now a construction site with excavators and jcb's working away, with sorry looking piles of rubble where once buildings had stood, took a few pics but only phone quality i'm afraid so hope these will do!
