We were over in Rugby to watch our daughter compete in the regional school sport finals. So, after watching running and swimming we thought we had time to go and check out Rugby Radio Station before the prize giving ceremony. The upshot was we missed her team being awarded 2nd place and it was hardly worth it, but hey-ho it's another venue off the list.

We parked in a lay-by a bit down the road so as to be a little inconspicuous, and walked along the dual carriageway in the rain, so when we got to the building we were a bit wet. It started to piss it down so we nipped inside pretty quick. Every window was smashed and every door was ripped open so there was no challenge. And when it's that easy to get in you can guarantee it's a derp. It was really windy and we could hear banging and then a crash from the upper floor and the blinds were swinging and clattering, so we were already on edge. We stood in reception for a minute deciding which way to go when there was an almighty flash and we both froze thinking WHAT THE F*** was that?! Had we been papped or was there some sort of security system. Luckily I worked it out a split second before the earth shattering crash of thunder that must have been directly overhead made the whole building shake and and clatter. We decided to crack on with the tour. After sticking our heads into a couple of rooms full of junk and realising it's trashed we decided to photograph the building itself before heading out. Pretty disappointing really.

A little bit of info on Wikipedia here: Rugby Radio Station - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. In short it opened in 1926 as a very low frequency transmitter. The MSF time signal was sent from here and the LORAN-C navigation system was trailed here until 2007. The masts are all now demolished.

Apparently planning applications have been put in for the whole area to become a sustainable urban extension to Rugby: RADIO STATION VISION

Curved outer wall, CCTV and something that looked like headstones. We wondered whether they had either been pushed, or fallen, off the roof and buried themselves upright on impact. There were lots of them all along the front of the building
