    Hi there,
I'm new to this site and this is my first report so please be kind! haha:)

    A brief history:
The Tannery opened around 1805. The Tannery was built next to the River Foss (first opened in 1796) with its easy access to York and beyond may have been the deciding factor.

Strensall census returns for 1841 onwards and found that most of the tannery workers were born outside the village.

The tannery closed down on January 30th, 2004 and was supposed to be made into a business park with many new jobs.

    Friday 24th October 2008:
A late night attack on the Tannery by a group of vandals/arsonists who torched the building. :crazy

Since then there has been some demolishing around the site, and only one building remains and has done for about 3 or more years now.

I respect that in the guidelines it's preferable to report a site that has little or no graffiti, and one that hasn't been ruined by a fire - but nonetheless I still think it's an interesting building and I couldn't find any other threads on this place....

Enough chat! Here are the photos....

    The outside

    Inside ground floor

    very dark control room
