Redcar Blast Furnace: December 2021
Another one from the backlog
Large industrial complexes ignite something childish within all of us, I'm sure, similar to seeing heavy machinery and subconsciously thinking that's cool. Its something that just draws you in and begins to play upon your...
Hello :)
I've been interested in abandoned places for a long time and have built up quite a collection of visits, but this is my first post on 28DL.
I know this place has been covered a lot but I felt like I had to write something as it is sadly being torn down as we speak.
So here's a run...
For those that may be interested, this would be a real spectical from the South Gare (probably have to go the night before they'll likely close that road), sad, but inevitable. If anyone goes please share photos/videos etc. as I sadly can't make it.

History:
The history of this former steelworks dates all the way back to the middle of the 1800s. At this time a small forge in the Belgium town of La Louviere began expanding its operations. By 1900 over 1200 employees were active on the terrain. When the first world war broke out nearly all of...
History:
In 1909 a brand new modern steel site was built at the banks of a canal between Charleroi and Brussels. At the time steel was one of the largest industries in Wallonia and was truly booming in industrial hubs like Liège and Charleroi. The complex started with just two blast furnaces but...
History
The "Haut Fourneau 4" (Blast furnace 4 in french) is a blast furnace of Marcinelle, Charleroi. It produced 6000 tonnes of cast iron per day for the rolling mill sites at La Louvière and Clabecq. A blast furnace is a type of metallurgical furnace used for smelting to produce industrial...
This is the first Report in a very long time, it seems anything I once uploaded has since been lost. Pictures are not wonderful, hopefully the story will excuse them to a degree and you might glean a sliver of wisdom, if you choose to make a visit to the Steelworks.
To kick off, I will...
This end of the site it well underway in terms of demolition.
I didn't dare going up this blast furnace, as given great chunks were missing, things could be a little more unstable.
I wasn't expecting to see the big building with the trains. These large wagons were used to move away the slurry...
HF6 was a blast furnace located in Seraing, adjacent to Liege, in Belgium. It formed part of the Cockerill Sambre, later combined Cockerill-Ougree steelworks that dominated the area - the area around Liege and Seraing is one of my favourite places anywhere in the world, but I digress. During the...

Some more Industrial Porn from a bit of a trip the later end of last year into Belgium and France with @Adam X and a couple of non members covering several Industrial Sites, Churches, a Chateau and Graffiti Warehouse ;) HFX is a massive abandoned steel works in France made up...

Finally got round to heading up north and making a start here.
I was unsure whether to do a report as there are quite a few floating around already and @Speed has pretty much covered every square inch of SSI quite epically so heres my take on it.

The Blast Furnace is a large...
I visited HF6 on an epic trip last year with @Wevsky, @extreme_ironing, @obscurity and @Monkey. I'd forgotten about it until someone mentioned today that it's currently being demolished so I decided to dig out my pictures. On this day Wevsky faced his fear of heights and we all had a go at...
Redcar Blast Furnace
Introduction:
My final SSI target ticked off at long last, the Redcar Blast Furnace, the sole surviving blast furnace in Teeside! Now that is something that's hard to beleive, when you consider that Teeside and the surrounding area was once Great Britains steel capital...
Yep, more reports from Redcar. Here's my take on the blast furnace.....

5th on my SSI redundant sites list,
1st being South Bank Coke Ovens & 2nd being Lackenby Steel Works.
Been wanting this for along as I can remember,
always thought about it each time the train passed by,
but never felt comfortable attempting it while live.
Once I read about the official closure...
Wasn't sure whether to post a report from here or not. My photos aren't all that, but it was a pretty fun night so here's my take on it. All these are hand held shots, I may go back and take some proper ones at some point, but for me it was more about seeing the place than photographing it...
I don't really understand how stuff like this works but I think it just gets really hot and then farts big turds of metal out of it's arse. I CAN tell you one thing though, it's fucking huge and it's fucking epic running around it with your mates in the middle of the night!
