St Margaret's Z-Rocket Battery Shelter, Dover - April 2022
Z ROCKET, St. Margarets - Dover, April 2022.
Contrary to popular belief...I've been told that this WAS NOT infact a Z Rocket battery... But a 4x 5.5inch Coastal Gun Battery..Apparently. there is no evidence to support it was even...
History:
The battery at St Margaret's was one of the earliest to be established in the Dover area. Its four 5.5" guns came were former naval guns, coming from the secondary armament of the battlecruiser HMS Hood, replaced during a refit. They were thus spared the fate suffered by the Hood...
The first stop of our dover tour, Z Rocket is a well known deep bunker and very much part of the tourist train.

This was the second place we hit up on a jaunt to Dover with my exploring buddies @KHurbanX and her partner. I finally made a trip to their neck of the woods and boy was it a treat!

Visited with Weeble. After a long search for Fan Bay deep shelter, which resulted in a fail - although looking at some maps, I think we only missed it by a few metres - we decided to forgo that and head on to this one. My first deep shelter, and a fairly fun and relaxed visit, with a few fairly...
So on Saturday morning I was supposed to be in Dover at 9.30. After a very heavy drinking session on Friday night and climbing in somewhere that I definitely shouldn't have been, and almost didn't get out from, I was woken at 9.45 by silverainbow saying he was going to be a bit late. In my...
Did this originally in 2010 and have visited many times,my first report all that time ago i had just got my dslr and tbh the pics where gash and due to it becoming not doable when i saw some pics pop up thought it would be rude not to go down and capture the place again!

Visited with Wevsky and Superwide, my 1st underground explore experience, thoroughly enjoyed, bit of history on the site,
Situated on the cliffs above St. Margaret's Bay is the site of a four gun, 5.5" battery that was one of the earliest of the protective emplacements that were rapidly...
At St. Margarets bay, there's an underground deep shelter for the St. Margarets 5.5" battery. This site was the first to use the un-rotated projectile known as Z-Rocket, which was an anti-aircraft weapon. It wasn't particularly accurate, but the thinking was if fired in large amounts, the plane...
My first report.
Called Z rocket because this is where they fired rockets from in a Z formation to increase the likelyhood of a direct hit on enemy aircraft.
A few pictures which youve probably seen before a million times.

Right plan was lydden soput first had a look but due to me really not having good footwear and still not over happy with the grassy slope leading down we decided to look at z rocket..loved it...
